ANTIQUIET SESSIONS: WALKING PAPERS AT SWING HOUSE
Los Angeles may be a centerpiece of musical excellence, but the Pacific Northwest is home to a caliber of talent that borders on outrageous. Rock enthusiasts and Seattleites familiar with Jeff Angell’s burning blues guitar & vocals in The Missionary Position will find an irresistible gravity in the collective musical caliber and dynamics of Walking Papers. Buoyed powerfully by the thundering drums of Barrett Martin from Screaming Trees and legendary bassist Duff McKagan of Guns N’ Roses, Loaded and more, the band has quickly proven themselves to be among the more promising musical gems of the post-Mayan Apocalypse era with a new album earning high marks in Rock circles and a smoldering live show that serves as ample evidence of the seasoned rockers’ abilities.
There’s a fiery gravity and growl to contend with on Walking Papers’ more front-loaded aggressive side, while a gorgeous, smoky blues thread counters the hard rock impact with a groove-driven sound buoyed by Duff’s rumbling bass and Martin’s percussive versatility. Benjamin Anderson rounds out the lineup with a flourish of keys that gives the production a more classic feel, adding nuanced color to the ample musical firepower.
The band’s debut self-titled album was released last October, and also features Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready, whose work with Martin goes back to their collaboration on the cherished Mad Season record. The band’s collective “workshop” method of songwriting helped propel the musicianship on the album to its highest potential – though it certainly didn’t hurt to have PJ’s lead axeman laying down solos on two tracks.
When Walking Papers rolled through Los Angeles last month in support of the album, Antiquiet performed the proper assortment of occult rituals and sacrifices to pull the guys into the studio for an exclusive Antiquiet Session.

SCOTT WEILAND PRAISES PRESIDENT OBAMA, ADMITS HE STILL DRINKS & RANTS ABOUT GRUNGE
Possible Stone Temple Pilots frontman Scott Weiland went on a long rant at his solo show last night in Washington DC. Numerous fans on Twitter claimed Weiland was drunk during his performance. chloesdad said on the BelowEmpty.com forums, “I’ve seen more STP/VR/Scott solo then I can count and this was by far the most painful show I’ve ever been to and that includes a show in which he didn’t even show up (Tampa 2008).”
Weiland’s rant included his thoughts on President Obama, “I think we have an amazing President, he’s just amazing.” He also said, “You’re thinking Scott Weiland is on drugs again…no that was 11 years ago, but I still drink…” This led into a bizarre rant about blogs, which included him asking what a blog was and proclaiming “Peter Jennings is awesome.”
Weiland also discussed Grunge, “People called it Grunge, but it wasn’t Grunge…it was going on everywhere.” Weiland seemed to be talking about how Seattle gets the most attention when it comes to the Grunge era. chloesdad said on BelowEmpty.com regarding Weiland’s rants, “Definitely went on rants that made little to no sense.”

Performance featuring STP's Robert DeLeo, Slash, Steven Tyler & Joe Perry: SETLIST
Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DeLeo performed with Aerosmith members Steven Tyler and Joe Perry yesterday in Los Angeles at the Stuart House Benefit, with Brian Tichy on drums. Former Velvet Revolver/Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash also performed “Mama Kin” with them. Video of that song still hasn’t surfaced. This was the first time members of Scott Weiland’s two bands bands that he was fired from, Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, have performed together. Tyler introduced “Dream On” by jokingly saying, “Here’s a song we just wrote for this occasion, by Robert.”
This isn’t the first time Robert DeLeo has performed with Aerosmith members. Robert and Dean DeLeo performed with Steven Tyler on American Idol in May 2011. Steven Tyler and Joe Perry also joined Stone Temple Pilots onstage at the band’s iconic performance at Madison Square Garden in November 1996, a show that is widely regarded as one of STP’s best. STP have also opened for Aerosmith in the past, including a fall 2002 North American tour.

Scott Weiland - New York at Irving Plaza 9 March 2013
Scott Weiland challenged a fan to a fight at his show last night in New York at Irving Plaza. The fan had been heckling Weiland. Weiland called out the fan to come on stage, “So you’re fuckin’ pulling that fuckin’ like gun shit off on me? Then come up and meet me one on one man. You play tough guy from an audience behind a barricade. [talking to security guard regarding fighting him] I’d love to. Yeah, that guy. Trust me. And just don’t forget it guys like you fuckin’ waste your money. I mean, actually, let him stay here, and just get all fuckin’ riled up. He won’t be able to sleep tonight.”

Tremonti lose US Tour withigh energy finale in Los Angeles
Tremonti showed no signs of wear and tear during the final stop of their latest U.S. tour on Tuesday night (March 5) in Los Angeles. There was plenty of energy in the Roxy as the band roared through a powerful set for a packed house.
The band opened their set with the hard hitting ‘All I Was’ album opener ‘Leave It Alone’ and settled into their hard-rocking groove with ‘Giving Up.’ Frontman Mark Tremonti and guitarist Eric Friedman took turns throughout the night keeping the audience fully involved, whether it be through getting the crowd to clap along or asking for some vocal assistance. Of course, the latter request was at its loudest during the performance of their singles ‘So You’re Afraid,’ ‘Wish You Well’ and especially on ‘You Waste Your Time,’ which came toward the end of their set.
Other standouts included the more melancholy track ‘The Things I’ve Seen’ and the performance of two non-album cuts — ‘All That I’ve Got’ and ‘Gone.’ The former provided a mixture of Garrett Whitlock power drumming and Wolfgang Van Halen bass licks that you could feel pulsating through your body. There was also some nifty choreographed headbanging between Tremonti, Van Halen and Friedman during the performance. Meanwhile, the latter non-album track, ‘Gone,’ provided a rocking start to the band’s encore.
With it being the final show of their tour (and likely the last performance for quite some time as Mark Tremonti moves his focus toward Alter Bridge), the frontman took the time to address his admiration and respect for his bandmate, who have become some of his best friends. At one point, he singled out Van Halen, calling him “a master” and having him lay down a quick bass solo. Friedman got plenty of love throughout the night as it was a hometown show for the guitarist. And Whitlock’s ferocity behind the kit was on display throughout.
The performance wrapped with Mark Tremonti acknowledging and getting the audience to shout out that ‘Brains’ would be the last song of the trek. With that in mind, the band rocked the track for all it was worth as audience members pogoed and headbanged in unison with the beats. Our photo gallery from the show can be seen below.
Tremonti has already stated that Alter Bridge will take precedence for the remainder of the year, but he recently hinted that if there was a break in the schedule after recording and before touring, there might be a chance for more Tremonti shows.

2. ‘Giving Up’
